The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a federally owned enterprise and is supporting the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.
The ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement (AMUSE) project, implemented by GIZ on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is seeking a Full Time National Intern for 6 months (01st February 2025 – 31st July 2025). This position is based in Siem Reap.
In contrast to the large urban centers of the ASEAN countries, small and medium-sized cities have considerable difficulties in dealing with the increasing amounts of waste caused by population growth, changed consumer habits, and increasing tourism figures. On the other hand, the tourism sector is dependent on the attractiveness of clean cities, and the demand for sustainable tourism is constantly increasing. A disproportionately large number of women and migrants work in the informal sector, which plays an important role in the recycling of waste and offers employment and thus a livelihood, especially for low-income households.
To support ASEAN to tackle the above challenges, the Federal Government of Germany through GIZ, and in close cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) has initiated the project “ASEAN Municipal Solid Waste Management Enhancement” (AMSUE). The project aims to contribute to improved environmental quality in medium-sized cities in the ASEAN region through strengthening the competences for optimizing waste disposal and recycling in small and medium-sized tourist cities.
