NatureLife Cambodia (NLC) is a national conservation organization with a mission to conserve biodiversity by managing natural resources sustainably, for the benefit of all. NLC was established with technical support from BirdLife International and became a national BirdLife Partner for Cambodia on 9th December 2020. In the capacity of BirdLife in Cambodia, this national organisation is working to maintain and preserve wildlife in Cambodia; conserve sites and habitats for biodiversity-sustaining ecological systems that enrich people’s lives; contribute to the alleviation of poverty by enhancing the sustainable use of natural resources; and build the capacity and promoting conservation work among Cambodian citizens. NLC (BirdLife in Cambodia) in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) and NGO partners, has been supporting and leading conservation activities in Lomphat Wildlife Sanctuary (LWS) since 2004, with a main focus on capacity development for law enforcement, forest monitoring, preservation of endangered species, and facilitating local community participation.
NatureLife Cambodia is currently looking for a suitable Cambodian applicant to fulfill the position below:
- Site Management Support Assistant
- Assist in developing the annual and monthly plan
- Join monthly patrol with rangers and community scouts
- Monitor and support rangers to do station and equipment maintenance
- Join rangers to do ground truthing
- Assist to organize monthly reflection meeting with rangers and scout at both sites (Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri) and develop the monthly patrol work plan.
- Assist organize training for rangers and community scouts (i.e. SMART, GPS, Avensa, basic ranger patrol skills..)
- Assist in purchasing patrol equipment and monthly motorbike maintenance
- Assist in building good relationships with LWS management teams and local authorities
- Access and provide capacity building to community scout to ensure their effective patrol with rangers
- Check and support to ensure good quality data collected by rangers and scout
- Assist in requesting the intervention from the LWS management team to crack down on illegal activities
- Assist in proposing budgets for covering the monthly patrol cost of rangers and community scout
- Settle monthly cash advance
- Assist in producing SMART patrol reports , monthly, quarterly and yearly
- Assist in ensuring the SMART device is functioning and effective use for supporting the patrol
- Support in reviewing the confiscated equipment inventories, placed at each station
- Ensure all equipment and vehicles supported by NLC are used according to rules and regulations
- Work with the community team and biodiversity research team of NLC to conduct awareness about protected area law and biodiversity conservation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Practical experience in working with rangers and community patrol team
- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, and a relevant law enforcement background.
- Experience working with government counterparts (i.e. rangers)
- Understanding of policy, institutions, and regulations in related fields in Cambodia.
- Willingness to spend considerable time in remote outposts, and forest campsites when coaching the rangers and community scouts to do patrolling.
- Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri residents are motivated.
- Know how to GPS, map, and compass.
- Experience in using SMART enforcement software and developing SMART monthly report
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Be honest, accountability, transparency, and independence.
