Free To Shine exists to prevent school-aged girls being trafficked into the commercial sex industry in Cambodia. We achieve this by working in partnership with local communities to strengthen family and community systems to prioritise the safety and education of their children.
- Senior Social Worker
- Work professionally within organisational policies and codes of conduct, including those related to ethical social work practice, community-based care, child protection, and confidentiality.
- Identify at-risk children and families through referrals and conduct initial assessments.
- Assess the presenting and underlying problems and risks facing clients. Develop a social work intervention case plan, specify goals, risk mitigation, action steps, resources, external support required, barriers and timeline.
- Provide support, counselling, education, encouragement and understanding to clients and families. Remind clients and their families of their strengths, advocate for them, help them assess risks and make informed decisions, provide resources and referral to external services where possible.
- Engage community partners in consultation to support clients and their families, including village leaders, commune leaders, Commune Council for Women and Children, school directors, teachers, and other NGOs.
- Manage complex cases for families in crisis and emergency situations; including referral, assessment, planning, case consultation, intervention, monitoring, review, exit.
- Keep accurate and confidential records, tracking changes and improvements.
- Record date correctly and support the monitoring and evaluation of the project.
- Provide monthly written and verbal project updates.
- Contribute to the continued development of social work tools, resources and training materials, and lead training sessions as required.
- Contribute content on social work for reports where required.
- Be aware of, and address child protection concerns through case conferences, and report to the Child Protection Officer.
- Represent Free To Shine at meetings with other NGOs for example those in the 3PC alliance, and at the monthly social work network meeting.
- Make referrals for clients, or any community member, to other organisations to access their services.
- Other duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Khmer National.
- Bachelor degree in Social Work or other related field
- Previous experience in social work or community development.
- Knowledge of and commitment to best practice in child protection and child rights issues in Cambodia.
- High level of computer literacy (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- *Appointment to this position will require a satisfactory clearance of a Police Check and a behaviour certificate issued at the commune level.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALITIES
- A motivated professional, honest, reliable and committed to high standards.
- High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.
- Excellent communication skills, in Khmer and English (written and spoken).
- Good networking skills with the ability to build strong relationships with a range of different people.
- Strong organisational skills, especially those related to prioritising, planning and management of own case work and advocacy related activities.
- Be able to demonstrate clear critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel long distances on motorbikes, on difficult roads, in challenging weather conditions, several times a week.
