The mission of the Center for Khmer Studies (CKS) is to support research and teaching in social sciences, arts, and humanities concerning Cambodia. Since our founding in 1999, CKS has continued to promote and foster a greater understanding of Cambodia and the Mekong region within Cambodia and abroad through the support of students and scholars from the U.S., France, and Cambodia, and through its extensive library collection and activities in the Kingdom.
The Khmer Language and Culture Program (KLCP) provides an opportunity for US and non-US faculty, post-graduate researchers, and upper-level undergraduates to participate in an intensive eight-week study abroad program, from June 9 to August 1, 2025, in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, with a field trip to Siem Reap. The program is designed for those who wish to develop their Khmer language skills and gain a better understanding of contemporary Cambodian society for academic and professional purposes.
- KLCP Instructors (2 Positions)
- The morning schedule is fixed: Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM from June 9 to August 1, 2025 at CKS Office, Phnom Penh.
- The afternoon schedule is more flexible depending on the planned activities and shared duties with the Field Coordinator and Teaching Assistant(s) (TAs). It is generally from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM.
- Thursday afternoons: visits to NGOs or hosting guest speakers.
- The afternoon classes will be taught by the Teaching Assistant(s), with whom the Instructors will work closely to ensure consistency of teaching technique and content, complementarity with the morning class, and reinforcement of the students’ learning experience.
- Cambodian citizens only.
- Significant knowledge of the Khmer language, culture, history, and current issues.
- A Master’s degree in linguistics or literature or the equivalent.
- Significant experience teaching the Khmer language to adult foreigners.
- Significant experience teaching the Khmer language at the university level.
- Very good English.
- Knowledge of integrating technology in language and culture instruction.
- Energetic and innovative.
