Job Description

We are looking to hire a dedicated Senior Media & Advocacy Officer & Trainer (f/m/d) to join our team. The Senior Media & Advocacy Officer & Trainer will support our communications strategy, produce and disseminate social media content through Facebook, website, and YouTube, develop campaigns and Public Relation materials, and respond to inquiries from the public and media and play role as trainer on Media, Communication and Advocacy. The Senior Media & Advocacy Officer & Trainer will give particular attention being one of the advocacy trainer team member and supporting the media, communication, public awareness, visibility and the marketing work of all API projects and Business Unit.

Background

API is a leading Cambodian capacity-building organization in the areas of advocacy, policy influencing, citizen engagement, social accountability, and good governance. API is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) with the mission to serve the long-term democratic and social development needs of Cambodia through empowering people to interact with their government to protect their rights and provide for their needs.

We are now focusing on raising public awareness on environmental and climate change education, local governance, democary, human rights, and promotion of rights to information and digital rights; and strengthen capacity of civil society for advocates and the public at large.

Hence, API is looking for professional Senior Media & Advocacy Officer & Trainer to support and address these needs.

  • Senior Media & Advocacy Officer & Trainer
Job Responsibilities & Duties
  • Content Production for API’s Social Media, Online Tools,
  • Coordinating communication across the whole spectrum of online tools (including website updates and social media contents).
  • Managing and monitoring all API social media accounts and the content of the website.
  • Developing and implementing an exhaustive communication database, keeping track of the currently existing and planned online resources available in all API projects.
  • Developing API’s social media presence, including regular text / visual content production and review.
  • The document, develop, and disseminate stories of API’s work, impacts and its projects and business activities.
  • Monitoring and managing comments, as well as the general impact on target groups
  • Constantly following the developments in API’s projects, as well as the general news, and timing posts accordingly.
  • Planning, implementing and monitoring communication campaigns directed at advocating for core API issues and/or at securing, consolidating, and enlarging API’s constituency; with particular emphasis on API’s Strategy 2024-28 and Buniess Unit.
  • Regularly consult with API’s director and executive committee, and the project teams on communication needs and topics to be covered.
  • Supporting API programme/project managers in their efforts to communicate and showcase the activities and results of their projects.
  • Intensively training a limited number of designated API team members to produce publishable visual content.
  • Preparing media articles and reports about the community issues and the API’s achiements, impact and for API management, trustees, members, and funders to monitor delivery and impact.
  • Continue developing the media, public communication materials and kit (graphic package defining API’s visual identity, text templates) according to the organization's needs.
  • Advising and supporting API staff in their effort to market their service offer and increase the revenue from sales and donations.
  • Media Relations
  • Produce press releases and advisories, pitch stories to journalists, organize press briefings and build internal capacity to work with media effectively, with emphasis on the API’s projects and Business Unit.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with journalists and maintain database of the communications with the media and CSOs and Development Partners.
  • Support management to respond to media inquiries and arrange interviews.
  • Maintain records of media coverage.
  • Business Relation
  • Support the marketing activities of the API Consultancy’s marketing strategy
  • Participate in development and implementation a strategic partnership with development partners and NGO networks
  • Maintain existing clients and explore new potential clients
  • Conduct digital & face to face marketing activities
  • Sales & Customer Relationship Management
  • Business Networking Event
  • Produce marketing materials (short advertising spot, leaflet, posters, testimony videos, service manu, one pager of key annual events, key contact person name card)
  • Established online contact point: Website, email, facebook messenger, telegram, mobile phone
  • Establish social media and other online platform content management and scheduling
  • Hosting online seminar and webinar/short course
  • Distributing marketing materials of API service through project
  • Produce contents for API website for consultancy service
  • Being a Trainer & Implementing Consultancy Services
  • Implementing consultancy activities such as product & service marketing activities.
  • Delivery of high-quality project- funded training and capacity development measures and consultancy-based training and capacity development services related to media, communication and advocacy...etc.
  • Lead and participate in the trainer team’s development of training curricula, online and e-learning resources, and provision of training, coaching, and mentoring in the API’s thematic areas related to media, communication and advocacy...etc.
  • Designing and implementing consultancy-based capacity development services and income generation activities based on market need assessments including training modules/capacity building, research, evaluation, and organisational development design based on client needs related to media, communication and advocacy...etc.
  • Fundraising
  • Participate in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities and income generation initiatives to sustain and develop the capacity development and consultancy service.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts through the expansion of capacity development and consultancy services related to media, communication and advocacy...etc.
  • Participate in developing business plan, project design, proposal development to raise funds from different sources
  • Lead in developing & implementing marketing and branding strategies,
  • Develop marketing content and branding awareness of API, API services for target audiences to promote products and services of API to current customers as well as potential clients.
  • Participate in conducting market research to identify potential consumers, competitor and expanding market opportunites.
  • Implement marketing campaigns & networking activities.
  • Establishing and attending networks and coalition of business association, private companies and CSOs to publicly market product and consultancy’s service of API.
  • Building customer relationship management (CRM) system and maintaining regular relationships with, both existing and new potential clients on update service of API.
Job Requirements
  • An advanced university degree, preferably in communications, media, journalism, business communication and marketing and other related discipline is required.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in working with NGOs, media, managing website, and social media design, and developing content, being a Media and or Advocacy Trainer, demonstrated by work samples.
  • Strong written communication skills in English and Khmer.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the full range of website and social media tools.
  • Proven ability to produce professional visual material; proficiency in design and publishing software.
  • Project management skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail, speedy reaction to events, proactivity, and outstanding initiative.
  • Good familiarity with the modern WCAG 2.0 digital accessibility standards.
  • Strong interest in and a good understanding of the concepts of digital security/safety, digital rights, and internet freedom.
  • Willing to adapt and learn new things about technology development and future trends in Cambodia as well as global context.
  • Demonstrated experience of work in and for the CSO community (is a plus).
  • Demonstrated familiarity & skills with graphic/photo/video shooting and editing tools (is a plus).
  • All applicants must have good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work well in a team; proficiency in the use of standard software packages, i.e. Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
